Negotiating a Licensing Deal

Discover the ins and outs of licensing your work from professionals who are currently navigating the process. The panelists, actively involved in licensing designs or products, will share real-life stories on what they have learned as they have tried to meet the right people, get the accurate advice and evaluate deals and potential partnerships. This interactive session will allow time for Q & A about how these panelists have negotiated deals.
This event has been organized by the Center for Design and Business; the BFE Community can take advantage of a discounted registration rate of $40. To obtain the discount, please print out the e-invitation you received from the BFE (or use the postcard you received in the mail) and mail or fax the invitation in with the registration form and your check for $40. If registering over the phone simply mention you received an invitation from the BFE and you will receive the discounted rate.

Peter Prip, Independent Designer and Industrial Design Faculty at Rhode Island School of Design
Peter Prip is a metals designer and adjunct faculty member at Rhode Island School of Design. He has designed jewelry and consumer goods for museum collections and home use. Currently, Peter is working on a line of cookware concepts for which he holds multiple patents.
Roger Hood, Intellectual Property Attorney at Duffy, Sweeney & Scott
Roger Hood is a partner at Duffy, Sweeney & Scott and focuses his practice on technology licensing, general counsel and employment law. He is also Chair of the firm’s corporate Technology practice group. Prior to joining Duffy, Sweeney & Scott, Roger was Senior Counsel at Motorola, Inc. for 17 years. At Motorola, he provided legal guidance to multi-million dollar operating groups in Massachusetts, Texas, Alabama, Florida and Canada.
Fred Spector, Industrial Designer, Frederic Spector Design
Fred Spector is principal and owner of the Frederic Spector Design Studio in Providence. He specializes in commercial and residential furniture, lighting and tabletop products, and he has designed products for companies such as Pottery Barn, Williams-Sonoma, Dansk and Smith & Hawken. Fred holds a Master’s Degree in Industrial Design from Rhode Island School of Design.
